AI marketing for DTC brands
Your product page is your ad, and some of the words on it carry legal weight. Made in USA, for one, has long meant all or virtually all, and since August 2021 a federal labeling rule has backed it with civil penalties. Flo writes the story without writing you into trouble.
A DTC brand is mostly a story told well, which makes it worth knowing which parts of the story are regulated.
Written for claims that get read closely.
Which DTC brand are you?
A brand with a team and a warehouse and a founder still packing orders both sell a story as much as a product. The difference is how much of the telling one person can still do. Pick yours.
DTC brand use cases
Four jobs the platform runs on a DTC account, starting with the list you actually own.
Own The List
Email to buyers, because the ad account belongs to somebody else.
Claims That Hold Up
Origin and ingredient language written to what you can support.
The Founder Voice
Posts that sound like the people behind it, since that is half the reason people buy.
Reviews On Every Channel
Replies on your site, on Google and wherever else people talk about you.
Other retail businesses we set up differently
DTC sits next to the other online sellers who own the customer relationship.
Marketing by company size
The same platform, framed by how many doors or storefronts you run, not by what you sell.
You have questions. We have answers.
What comes up on the first call with a DTC brand.
Can we say Made in USA?
Only if final assembly or processing happens in the US, all significant processing happens in the US, and all or virtually all ingredients or components are made and sourced here. That is the standard in the FTC's labeling rule, effective 13 August 2021, and violations carry civil penalties.
What about Designed in or Assembled in?
Those are qualified claims and they are judged under the FTC's general standard for deception. They are allowed when accurate. They are not a way around the unqualified Made in USA test, and the FTC has brought cases over exactly that.
Paid acquisition keeps getting pricier.
The email list is the one audience you do not pay the platform to reach. Brands that write to buyers regularly keep talking to people they already paid for once.
How founder-led should the content be?
As much as you can stand. Buyers of DTC products want to know who made the thing and why, and a founder post in plain language tells them directly.
